Tourist resource basis
Due to its geographic and traffic position, configuration and soil quality, the County of Brod and Posavina can develop different kinds of selective tourism. The County of Brod and Posavina is situated in the southern part of Slavonian valley, in the area between the mountain of Psunj, belonging to the Požega's and Dilj's mountains in the north, and the River Sava in the south. It covers an area of 2043 square kilometers.
Two main traffic routes pass through the County of Brod and Posavina. The first, intercontinental route links the countries of Western Europe with the countries of the Near East. Railroad, road, river and telecommunications networks and a pipeline pass through the whole area of the County along the route. The second, interregnal route spreading from the north to the south, links the countries of Eastern and middle Europe with the Adriatic Sea.
The area of the County of Brod and Posavina isn't fully developed in terms of tourism, but it possesses huge potentials and insufficiently exploited natural resources. We should also mention hunting and fishing resources covering an area of almost 200.000 ha (Radinje, Migalovci, Gradiška brda, Puavice) where differing fauna is represented - wild animals living in the mountains and valleys. The biggest fishponds in this part of Europe along the Rivers Sava, Orljava, Mrsunja and other small rivers and clear streams which are suitable for mallard and geese-hunting as well as for sport fishing are situated here. We should also mention numerous excursion resorts (Strmac, Ljeskove vode, Migalovci, Petnja and so forth) as well as protected landscapes (Gajna, Prašnik, Muški bunar, Lonjsko polje). Archaeological localities, monumental, cultural and historical heritage, as well as museums and sacral architecture have a significant place in the development of tourism.
